A/Prof Simon Skalicky is a Specialist Ophthalmologist with subspecialty skills in glaucoma and cataract surgery.
After completing medical school with first class honours, hospital residency and Ophthalmology training in Australia, he undertook subspecialty fellowship training at Cambridge in the United Kingdom where he studied and practiced glaucoma and cataract surgery.
He is an Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne, Centre for Eye Research Australia, and a consultant at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, where he teaches medical students, Ophthalmology trainees and glaucoma fellows.
A/Prof Skalicky serves on the Australian and New Zealand Glaucoma Society executive and the editorial board of the Journal of Glaucoma. He is the immediate Past President of Glaucoma Australia and is actively involved in the World Glaucoma Association.
Simon is both a clinician and glaucoma researcher with over 50 articles in international journals, a highly regarded textbook on Ocular and Visual Physiology, and is a reviewer for several Ophthalmology journals. A strong advocate for patients, his research background includes the impact of glaucoma on patients’ quality of life, and more recently the benefits of online visual field testing through personal devices.

I’m strongly dedicated to my patients and their health outcomes, and am a passionate advocate for excellence in the fields of cataract and glaucoma surgery. To achieve this, I work hard in learning and perfecting the latest glaucoma surgery techniques and technological innovations that I can offer my patients. I believe in creating a positive clinic environment, leading the members of the health team to ensure our best efforts are provided daily.
I work hard to keep abreast with the latest in medical research in my fields of expertise, always hopeful that new and better strategies are available to optimise healthcare delivery. I divide my clinic time with a career in scientific research, where I’m committed to optimising patients’ quality of life, visual outcomes and treatment satisfaction.
