Dr Trevor Gin is a Specialist Ophthalmologist with a special interest in Medical Retina.  Dr Gin completed his medical degree at the University of Melbourne in 1987, gaining honours in all subjects.  He completed a post graduate Masters degree in experimental diabetic retinopathy, then finished his ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital.  Dr Trevor Gin then completed a fellowship in retinal diseases with Professor Alan Bird at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.  Dr Gin is currently a consultant ophthalmologist at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital Medical Retinal Clinic, and has also been a consultant at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, The Alfred Hospital and St. Thomas’ Hospital in London.

Dr Trevor Gin is a fellow at the Centre for Eye Research Australia and is involved in international clinical trials for Medical Retinal Unit and for the Eye and Ear Hospital.  He also has a keen interest in third world eye disease and has operated in self-funded eye camps in Nepal, Vietnam, Kiribati, Nauru, Cambodia, Ethiopia, the peripheral islands of Vanuatu, and Laos.  He has had an active role in the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists and has held the key roles of the Qualification and Education Committee Chairman for the Victorian Ophthalmology Training Program and Chairman of the Selection Panel for the Victorian Ophthalmology Training Program. He is presently an Examiner for the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists.

Dr Trevor Gin practices general ophthalmology, including Cataract Surgery, and has a key interest is in Medical Retinal disease, including Diabetic Retinopathy and Age Related Macular Degeneration.  He likes to take a holistic approach when treating his patients, taking into account their circumstances and other health issues in their management.  Dr Trevor Gin has a strong commitment to public health care, continuing to work in the public system for over 30 years, and been keenly involved in the teaching of the young trainee ophthalmologists.
